Riverside Fire Protection Company Owner Conducts Training for New Location

July 27, 2009 —DENVER, COLORADO— The owner of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. will begin training contractors for the company’s new Orange County, CA satellite location in mid-July.

The training is in preparation of the company’s Aug. 1 opening, said Hossein Hashemi, marketing director for NFP and its parent company, American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), both of which are headquartered in Denver, CO.

Massoud Farazandeh, NFP’s chief executive officer, conducts the training himself because of the company’s acute focus on ethics and quality standards, Hashemi said.

“The standards set forth by Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. are more extensive than most state building and fire code standards,” he said.

Specific areas Farazandeh covers in his training include the importance of installing access panels for kitchen hood systems correctly and installing hinges on exhaust fans
to make cleaning and maintenance easier. The training also will cover how to adequately explain the scope of services to customers so they are aware of exactly what they are purchasing.

“These services aren’t always cheap, and customers need to know every single thing they are getting for the price,” Farazandeh said.

In addition to the initial training, contractors will receiving continuing training on safety and technical aspects of the work.

Once the contractors are trained, this satellite location will make it more convenient for the company to offer Riverside, CA fire protection services, Hashemi said. Although the company has provided Riverside fire suppression systems and other fire protection and commercial kitchen-related services throughout that city and other major cities in California since the company began in 1989, they have done so via their Denver headquarters.

This California location will make it easier for NFP to service clients in need of Riverside, CA fire systems and will enable NFP to offer its services at a more competitive rate, he said.

In addition to the Riverside area, Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. Offers its services throughout California, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Santa Maria, Long Beach, Anaheim and Malibu.

NFP’s California satellite office is located at 610 S. Jefferson St., Unit G in Placentia.

Long Beach Fire Protection Systems Company Uses Ventless Hoods in Tough Situations

July 27, 2009 —DENVER, COLORADO— When kitchens are located in multi-story buildings or in basements where there is no access to a roof, American Professional Services (APS-Hoods) recommends using ventless hood systems rather than vented ones.

Ventless hood systems eliminate the need for running ducts through buildings and onto roofs, or out the sides of buildings, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), which recently opened a satellite location in Orange County, CA. NFP has installed Long Beach fire alarm systems, as well as commercial kitchen hoods, for more than 20 years.

Farazandeh began promoting ventless hoods to clients inquiring about his company’s hood sales services after encountering several instances recently where the ventless systems were the only options for some commercial cooking operations.

The most recent occurance was in a multi-story building in Los Angeles, Farazandeh said. A law firm that occupied several floors of the building had an area where food was prepared for employees. The local fire department cited them for the operation, stating that it violated fire and building codes to cook food in the facility without a kitchen hood. The law firm turned to APS-Hoods for a solution.

“There was no room anywhere to run a duct up to the roof or even out the side of the building because of where the facility was located within the building,” he said. “Their only option was to go with a ventless hood system, because it’s the only legal way to have a fire-protected commercial hood in place that meets all existing building and fire protection codes.”

The law firm’s representatives had been worried about how to resolve the issue and were relieved to learn that there was a viable option, Farazandeh said. Because the cooking equipment was electric and not gas, the ventless hood was possible.

A ventless hood system does not require a vent to remove smoke, fumes and steam from the air in a kitchen, Farazandeh said. Instead, the system uses a sophisticated filtering system to clean the air while it is recirculated. The system frequently has an electrostatic filter that collects particles by using gas or air to create an electric charge to attract the particles, similar to static electricity on clothing. Odors are eliminated with the use of a charcoal filter. When used together, the filters make a ventless hood nearly as effective as a vented hood. A UV package also can be added to the system, which disintegrates the grease.

“This is a feature that environmentalists really like,” he said.

Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. Opens Beverly Hills Fire Protection Satellite Location

July 27, 2009 —BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA— Growth is on the horizon for Nationwide Fire Protection Corp.

Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), is making its Beverly Hills, CA fire protection systems installation and sales services cheaper and more convenient for customers by opening an Orange County location, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp.

NFP has installed Beverly Hills, CA fire detection systems, as well as commercial kitchen hoods, for more than 20 years. Although headquartered in Denver, the company always has maintained a presence in the Beverly Hills area, Farazandeh said. Rather than opening an office/workshop location of their own, NFP has partnered with independent contractors in California through the years to provide services throughout Orange County.

A recent advertising push in the area resulted in a significant increase in business, Farazandeh said. Soon thereafter, he realized it was time to open a satellite location. Farazandeh chose an office/workshop space in a Placentia industrial park because it will make it convenient for NFP to take on additional work in areas in and around Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Anaheim and Santa Ana.

The shop, located at 610 S. Jefferson St., Unit G, provides enough space for NFP to have a full-scale shop where Farazandeh can perform custom fabrication work, as well as an office for sales and other services the company offers. He plans to open the location for business on August 1.

“The way things are going, it looks like this operation will become bigger than our Denver location,” he said. “I’m asking myself why I didn’t do an advertising push and set up a Los Angeles- area location 15 years ago.”

The Placentia location will make work a lot easier on for NFP employees. In the past, they have worked out of independent contractors’ shops for small jobs, while doing custom fabrication jobs at the company’s Denver location and having them shipped to California. Providing these services on-site means cost savings can be passed along to customers, Farazandeh said.

Every service provided by Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. at its Denver location also will be provided at the Placentia location, he said. That scope of services includes:

• Fire Suppression System Installation and Inspections
• Hood, Duct and Exhaust Fan Installation
• Hood Cleaning
• Hood Sales
• Custom Fabrication

“We are very excited about this opportunity to increase our California presence,” Farazandeh said.

Los Angeles, California Fire Systems Company Promotes Ventless Hoods

July 27, 2009 —DENVER, COLORADO— Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods), has begun a promotion of ventless commercial hoods at its new satellite location in California.

The company has sold ventless kitchen hoods for years, but a recent incident prompted the Los Angeles, CA fire systems company to make sure potential customers are aware of this option when they inquire about hood sales and hood installation services, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. NFP, which is headquartered in Denver, CO, has installed Los Angeles, CA fire protection equipment, as well as commercial kitchen hoods, for more than 20 years.

A ventless hood is a kitchen exhaust hood that can be used in commercial kitchens that use electric instead of gas, Farazandeh said. This type of hood recirculates air instead of using a vent to remove fumes, smoke and steam generated during the cooking process.

Ventless hoods use one or more filters to remove these impurities from the air and eliminate odors. They are nearly as effective as vented hoods, but require more frequent cleaning to ensure they remain in optimum working condition.
“When you’re a commercial operation and you’re given the choice of implementing something that requires more cleaning or shutting down your entire operation, it’s not a difficult choice to make,” Farazandeh said.

That was the case with a recent customer in the Los Angeles area. A large company in a 20-story building that occupies about five floors had an area where food was prepared daily for employees. The local fire department told them they no longer could prepare food because there was no vented hood system.

“The problem was that there was no way to install a vented system,” Farazandeh said. “There was no room anywhere to run a duct up to the roof or out the side of the building.”
Once Farazandeh learned that the kitchen appliances were electric and not gas, he presented the ventless hood option.

“They were so happy,” he said. “They had been so worried about how to solve this issue.”
The scenario made Farazandeh wonder if there is enough information available about ventless hood systems for potential customers to refer to when making a determination on the best hood system for their uses, he said.

“This event just drove home the idea that we need to make sure customers understand that this is a viable option,” Farazandeh said. “Having this option makes spaces that might otherwise have not been ideal for commercial kitchens available.”
