Santa Ana Fire Protection Company Offers Reasons for Fire Suppression System Inspection

PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA— The owner of a fire suppression system company that installs Santa Ana fire protection recently released a list of the top four reasons businesses should have routine fire suppression system inspections.

Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., which provides services for Santa Ana, CA fire suppression systems, frequently finds systems with clogged link lines, or systems that have been poorly installed or don't meet current codes, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. In August, NFP opened a Placentia, CA satellite location to better serve its California clients, including Santa Ana fire sprinkler systems clients.

There are several common problems Farazandeh identifies when inspecting fire suppression systems and hood systems. Following are his top four reasons that businesses could maintain a regular fire suppression system inspection schedule:

  • Keep fusible link line conduits free of grease. Grease in the conduits has been known to prevent the system from properly setting off in the event of a fire.

  • Ensure proper cable connections. Sometimes, the cable doesn’t travel properly to set off the system. The cable is connected to the fusible link line and sets off the mechanical head system. This discharges fire suppression chemicals to put out a fire if it breaks out.

  • Make sure electrical interlocking is in place. If it isn’t, this can keep a fire suppression system from working properly. In the event of a fire, the electrical interlocking starts up the exhaust fan, turns off the Makeup Air Unit and turns off electrical appliances, lights and outlets in and under the hood. In some cases, the electrical interlocking also discontinues gas flow.

  • Check nozzle caps to make sure they are in place. Farazandeh often conducts inspections and finds that nozzle caps are missing and the nozzles have filled with grease. If the system is set off and the nozzles are clogged, the fire suppression chemical can’t be discharged properly.

“A fire suppression system is something that you hope you never have to use,” Farazandeh said. “But if you do, you want to know that it will work properly, and the only way to do that is to have it checked routinely to ensure it is at an optimum functioning level.”

San Francisco CA fire alarm systems Company Releases Tips in Honor of Upcoming National Fire Prevention Week

PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA— October 4-10 is Fire Prevention Week, and in honor of that, a San Francisco, CA fire protection systems company has released a tip sheet to promote fire safety among businesses.

Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., which recently opened a Placentia satellite location to better address the demand of San Francisco CA fire protection jobs and other fire protection service requests throughout California, has released a list of the top five fire prevention tips that restaurants and businesses should follow to maintain safe working conditions.

“Fire prevention is our livelihood and it’s important to us that businesses and restaurants do all they can to prevent the potential for damages caused by fires,” said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection, which is headquartered in Denver, CO. NFP is an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods).

Fire Prevention Tips
  • Restaurants and other businesses should test their fire systems once or twice a year. This is a pull system test, where the system must be set off to ensure that it works properly in the event of a genuine emergency.
  • Change the links on nozzles annually.
  • Make sure fire extinguishers are charged at all times.
  • Keep fire systems up to code. Technology constantly evolves, and state and federal codes do as well.
  • For restaurants, keep kitchen hoods clean and free of grease.
  • Restaurants are the major cause of big commercial fires, Farazandeh said. In 60 percent of restaurant fires, the cause is due to excessive grease in the hoods and ducts.

About Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. This fire killed more than 250 people, left another 100,000 people homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 buildings and other structures and torched in excess of 2,000 acres. The fire began on Oct. 8, but exacted the most damage on Oct. 9. Visit the National Fire Protection Association Web site for more information on Fire Prevention Week: www.nfpa.org.

San Bernardino, CA Fire Suppression Systems Company Offers Advice On Choosing A Contractor

August 16, 2009— PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA — There are numerous fire systems companies from which businesses can choose when they are having a new system installed.

But rather than look only at the task of installing the system, business owners should consider future cleaning, maintenance and inspection needs when selecting the right San Bernardino fire suppression systems company for the job, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods).

NFP has provided San Bernardino, CA fire suppression systems and other fire prevention services from its Denver, CO headquarters since the company opened in 1989. The company recently opened a satellite location in Placentia, CA to better serve its California customers, Farazandeh said.

“One thing to keep in mind when seeking a good fire suppression system installer is that it is wise to find an installer who also performs annual services and inspections,” he said. “Lots of companies can install these systems, but it is important to have an eye for future maintenance needs during the installation process.”

Not all fire suppression systems are built alike, Farazandeh said. They must be custom-built in accordance with the equipment under the commercial kitchen hood. Companies such as NFP that install and service the systems understand how to install these custom systems in a way that makes future maintenance and repairs convenient.

Because NFP installs fire suppression systems and kitchen hood, duct and fan systems, they realize that their fire suppression work can effect future cleaning and maintenance of kitchen hood systems. Many fire suppression system installers are not familiar with the hood cleaning process and block the access panels, making it difficult for hood cleaners to remove them, Farazandeh said.

Another common problem is installing fire suppression system nozzles too close to filters, which also makes the filter difficult for hood cleaners to remove. Hood cleaners are often faced with no choice but to slightly damage the filters when removing them, due to the tight gap.

Tips for Choosing a Company

Another thing customers should do when choosing a fire system installation company is ask to see proof that the company carries adequate insurance and possesses the appropriate certifications and licenses. They also should be willing to provide specific information on when installation work will begin, as well as an anticipated completion date. Once all of the work is completed, a true professional typically provides written documentation that outlines all of the work that was performed, Farazandeh said.

“It’s also a good idea to request a list of references,” he said.

Customers often can save money by selecting a company that supplies all of the materials necessary for the job, as opposed to having to use several suppliers.

It is a good idea to inquire about the experience and training of the employees within the company. A reputable company places a lot of value on continuing education and training for its employees.

“Codes and fire safety regulations change from time to time, so you want to choose a company that values ongoing training because it’s a good sign that they keep up with those changes,” Farazandeh said.

Most reputable companies also adhere to the standards outlined in the following codes:

• The International Fire Code
• NFPA-96
• The International Mechanical Code

Beverly Hills, California Fire Protection Company Announces Grand Opening Offer

August 6, 2009 —PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA— Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., which opened a satellite office in Placentia earlier this month, is offering a 10 percent discount off of kitchen hood cleaning services as part of its grand opening celebration.

Customers can take advantage of the special rate through Oct. 31, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp.

This special offer for hood cleaning is a good deal for restaurants, particularly during these difficult economic times, because it is a service they cannot do without, Farazandeh said. Grease build-up on kitchen equipment poses a dangerous fire hazard. Depending on the cooking processes used by restaurants, they may have to get their hoods, ducts and fans cleaned as often as every two months.

NFP has provided its Beverly Hills fire protection services from its Denver headquarters since the company began in 1989, but adding a California location makes providing those services more convenient and saves customers money, Farazandeh said.

“The requests for our services from California restaurants have increased so sharply that we knew it was time to find a more efficient way of working there,” he said. “The best option was to open a satellite location so we could continue to offer the quantity and caliber of services that we offer at our headquarters in Denver.”

Although the company offers its services throughout California, it is placing particular focus on installing and servicing Beverly Hills, CA fire protection systems.

“There is a huge demand for our services throughout the state, but especially in the Beverly Hills area,” Farazandeh said.

NFP’s Placentia location at 610 S. Jefferson St., Unit G, offers enough room for the company to maintain a fully-stocked shop where Farazandeh can perform custom fabrication work, as well as an office for sales and other services the company offers. Those services include installations, inspections, maintenance and repairs of fire detection and fire suppression systems. Commercial kitchen hood, duct and fan cleaning, sales, installation, maintenance, repairs and inspections are performed by NFP’s parent company, American Professional Services (APS-Hoods).

San Diego Fire Protection Systems Company Offers Advice on Testing Fire Alarms

Wednesday, August 5, 2009— PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA — Businesses throughout California install fire alarm and fire suppression systems in their buildings and hope that they never have to use them.

Although the likelihood of experiencing a fire are slim, it is a good idea to test fire alarm systems on a routine basis to ensure they operate properly in the event that there is a fire, said Massoud Farazandeh, general manager of Nationwide Fire Protection Corp., an affiliate of American Professional Services (APS-Hoods).

Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. has provided San Diego fire systems service and installation from its Denver headquarters since the company began in 1989. The company opened a satellite location in Placentia earlier this month, due to the increase in service requests throughout California.

“Now that we have a satellite workshop in California, we anticipate that our requests for San Diego, CA fire detection systems services and installations are going to increase,” Farazandeh said. “We feel as though it’s important to share some tips on maintaining fire alarms so businesses can be better educated on when they need to call us for service.”

Most businesses do not routinely test their fire alarms and of those that do, many do not properly test the systems, he said. It is important that fire alarms be tested by qualified personnel who are certified. There are several entities that can certify personnel, including the International Municipal Signal Association or the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies. Personnel also may be factory-trained and certified, according to an article in the NFPA Journal.

Letting the Pros Do it
For many business owners, scheduling fire alarm tests is yet another task added to an already busy day, so they opt to have a professional company come in and do the work.

Hiring a company such as Nationwide Fire Protection Corp. certainly has its benefits, Farazandeh said.

“As we’ve mentioned, there are several things that can be done incorrectly,” he said. “But hiring a company that has expertise in this area means the testing will be done properly the first time.”

Farazandeh also offers same-day service for recharging extinguishers and tagging them. Extinguishers must be tagged annually, which signifies that it is charged and lists its inspection date. If a fire department representative sees an untagged extinguisher, the business owner can be fined.

Included in the the alarm testing process is a complete report that details the work done, any deficiencies found and any repairs that need to be made, he said.
